“My Thessaloniki”
The city through the eyes of children!

The Foundation of the Museum for the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) invites children aged 5–11 to take part in a four-day programme of experiential workshops dedicated to Thessaloniki and the stories hidden within the city, as seen through the eyes of its youngest residents.

Following the great success and enthusiastic response to the summer workshops on Thessaloniki, we are continuing along the same creative path, giving children the opportunity to express their own perspective on the city, their neighbourhood and the ways in which they imagine it becoming even more beautiful, functional and welcoming for everyone.

Experiential learning lies at the heart of the programme, enabling children to discover knowledge actively and through all their senses. The educational walk through the city transforms the urban landscape into a living learning environment, where history, culture and everyday life become subjects of observation, exploration and creative dialogue. Through this process, children develop a deeper relationship with their surroundings, strengthen their sense of belonging, cultivate respect for the cultural and urban environment and gradually develop the identity of active citizens.

The experiences are then transformed into personal expression and creative work through visual arts activities, creative writing games, comic creation, digital workshops and drama-based educational activities. Theatre and creative play strengthen empathy, self-confidence, communication, cooperation and problem-solving abilities, making a meaningful contribution to the development of soft skills that are valuable in children’s school and social lives. At the same time, creative writing encourages children to organise their thoughts, develop their imagination and their spoken and written language, and give form to their ideas and emotions.

All programme activities are designed to ensure equal participation for everyone, free and democratic expression, and the joy of creating together. They take place in a historic museum setting that provides an engaging and supportive environment where every child feels equal, accepted and free to express their ideas, experiences and creativity. Through open processes of learning and recreation, the programme encourages the active participation of all children, respect for diversity and the development of meaningful social relationships.

The programme aims to encourage children to observe the city from a new perspective, listen to its needs, propose ideas for improving the urban environment and understand that their opinions matter and can contribute to shaping the community in which they live.

Hours: 08:30–09:00 arrival – 14:30–15:00 departure

Participation Fee

€80 per child for all four days
€70 per child for siblings or groups of friends
Early Bird: €65 per child for full payment by Tuesday, 25 August 2026

As with all our educational workshops, craft materials are provided by the Museum, while the children’s breakfast is kindly sponsored by Koukakis Farm S.A.
