The young Museum friends welcome Easter with Butterflies of Spring and Poppies of Resurrection
April 2023
The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle organizes this year again experiential Easter workshops for its young friends aged 5-12 years old!
From Monday to Wednesday, children who will participate in the workshops will have the opportunity to creatively approach well-known works of art depicting butterflies and poppies, the two representative symbols of Spring, Resurrection and Renaissance. Easter, customs and the Greek tradition in Laography meet the contemporary visual imprint in works of world art and are transformed into original art constructions, short stories, digital games and theatrical events by the children.
The life cycle of the butterfly transforming and spreading its wings for a free and colourful flight in nature marks evolution, transformation and fulfilment. The red colour of the poppy catches the eye of the painters. The flower that marks the coming of spring also symbolizes peace, as it grows indigenous in the meadows and is a hallmark of the end of all war and the triumph of life. Children will come into contact with original works of art from the Museum’s collection, as well as through a video projection, with great creations of Greek and foreign artists on this theme. They will connect the passage to the new era of the Renaissance with the message of the Resurrection through multi-layered activities of visual experimentation, literacy, creative writing, theatre and technology. At the same time, all the exhibition spaces of the Museum, as well as the neighbouring courtyard of the 43rd Primary School of Thessaloniki, will be used for the Easter constructions and the kinetic, entertaining games of the workshops.
