“From Liberation to the Second World War: People, Conflict and Environment in the Modern History of Macedonia”

Museum of the Macedonian Struggle
The Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) and the Regional Directorate of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia organized on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, in a hybrid way, the main educational conference of the Museum for the academic year 2023-2024, on the topic: “From Liberation to World War II: People, Conflict and Environment in the Modern History of Macedonia”.
The aim of the workshop was to inform and train teachers of all school levels of the Region of Central Macedonia on the issue of memory management and the legal framework for human rights, in the aftermath of the war conflicts in the modern history of Macedonia.
The Director of IMMA, Mrs. Athina Pavlidou and the Regional Director of Primary and Secondary Education of Central Macedonia, Mr. Alexandros Koptsis addressed the event.
Presentations were made by Mr. Ioannis Stefanidis, Professor of Law at AUTH, Nikolaos Zaikos, Rev. Professor at the Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies of UOM, Stavroula Mavrogeni, Professor at the Department of Balkan, Slavic and Oriental Studies of UOM – Director of KEMIT of IMMA and Katerina Tzavaras, Educator – Author, Head of the Educational Programmes of IMMA.
The conference concluded with a short presentation of the IMMA’s pilot educational programmes conducted in cooperation with the Directorates of Education of Western Thessaloniki and with an experiential – interactive workshop on the teaching of History at school.
The event was attended by the Director of Secondary Education of Western Thessaloniki, Mr. Christos Roubidis, the Director of Primary Education of Western Thessaloniki, Ms. Evangelia Bouchkou, Coordinators and Education Advisors of the Region.
