Museum of the Macedonian Struggle
The lecture organized by the Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA), entitled “Mutating relations between national centers and the Greek Diaspora“, was successfully held on Thursday 27 June 2024, with the President of the Australian Institute of Macedonian Studies, Mr. Anastasios M. Tamis, former Professor of the Faculty of Humanities and Sciences of the Universities of Melbourne, Monash, La Trobe and Notre Dame. The event was organized in memory of the Great Benefactor of the Australian Commonwealth, Zisis Dardalis (1938-2023), a native of Siatista, Kozani.
The Director of IMMA, Ms Athina Pavlidou, in her welcome address, referred to the long-term cooperation between IMMA and the Australian Institute of Macedonian Studies (AIMS), which is based on relations of trust and mutual appreciation. She then warmly thanked the President and the members of the Board of Directors of the AIMS, who decided to support the research work of the IMMA’s Centre for Macedonian History and Documentation Research with a grant of AU$5,000, which will bear the name of the great Siatista benefactor of the Australian Diaspora (Zissis Dardalis Grant).
Professor Anastasios M. Tamis first referred to the contribution and the role played by the late benefactor and humanitarian Zisis Dardalis in the social, intellectual and academic development of the Hellenism of the Australian Diaspora. He then proceeded with his lecture, where he analyzed the relations between the Greek Diaspora and the Metropolis. At the end of the lecture, a number of questions and a dialogue with the audience followed.
