Scientific Workshop at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle “Getting to know the environment of Macedonia. Mountain, lowland, marine environment, protection and sustainability”

The Aristotle Museum of Natural History of Thessaloniki (AMFITH), the Society of Friends of AMFITH “PANGAIA-Thalassa” and the Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA), in cooperation with the Geopark of Grevena-Kozani, organize a scientific conference on “Getting to know the environment of Macedonia. Mountain, lowland, marine environment, protection and sustainability”, on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 September 2024, at the “Alexandros Haitoglou” hall of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle.
The two-day conference is implemented with the funding of the GREEN FUND, in the framework of the Financial Programme “Natural Environment and Climate Neutrality 2024” under A.A. 1: “Protection of the natural environment – climate neutrality & other actions”.
Participants include professors, scientists and researchers from the Aristotle University, the University of Macedonia, the University of Crete, the University of Crete, the Grevena-Kozani Geopark and the Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia. Topics will be developed concerning the geological history, geodiversity and biodiversity of Macedonia, the evolution of its environment over time and the environmental problems it faces, such as the pollution of the Thermaikos Gulf. In particular, the role of Geoparks and Museums in culture, education and awareness-raising for the protection of the environment will be highlighted. The event will conclude with Educational Workshops for the practical application of non-formal education methods and the promotion of environmental awareness and sustainability in the museum space.
