The exhibition “Yannis and Milto Manakia: The Faces Behind the Lens” is traveling to Patras.

The exhibition of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia Foundation (IMMA) titled “Giannis and Miltos Manaki. The Faces Behind the Lens” is traveling to Patras and will be hosted at Mosaic Hub in Markato.

The opening will take place on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at 20:00, and the exhibition will be open to the public until January 24, 2025, from Monday to Friday, 10:00-18:00.

The Manaki brothers, pioneering filmmakers and photographers from the village of Avdella in Grebena, traveled through the countryside and major urban centers of the Balkans, documenting not only the lives of working people, moments of leisure and entertainment, but also architectural landmarks, historical and social events that marked the changes of the first half of the 20th century. The exhibition features a large collection of photographs from the personal archive of Leonidas Manakis, son of Miltos Manakis, which was donated to IMMA by Honorary Ambassador Mr. Alexandros Mallias. Visitors will also have the opportunity to watch the eponymous documentary, produced by filmmaker Akis Loukas.

The exhibition was successfully organized at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle as part of the 8th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2023 and has already traveled to Pristina and Grebena.

In Patras, the exhibition is organized by the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia Foundation with the support of PIVOT AMKE and Mosaic // Culture & Creativity, in collaboration with the Region of Western Greece. The exhibition is curated by Stavroula Mavrogeni, Professor at the University of Macedonia and Director of the Research Center for Macedonian History and Documentation at IMMA, while the general coordination is managed by Athena Pavlidou, Museologist, Cultural Manager, and Director of IMMA.
