Book Presentation: Macedonia in the Greek Parliament, 1897–1989
Book PresentationExhibitions Saturday 10 May 2025
The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy and the Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA), as part of their participation in the 21st Thessaloniki International Book Fair, are organizing a presentation of the publication Macedonia in the Greek Parliament, 1897–1989, on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 19:00, at Logos Hall (Pavilion 12) in the TIF-HELEXPO International Exhibition and Conference Center.
The trajectory of the Macedonian Question, as a privileged and “sensitive” topic in Greek political discourse, contains numerous chapters and sub-chapters that go beyond the realm of diplomatic history in public memory. It also concerns the broader perception of Macedonia as a region with distinct characteristics, challenges, and a population that calls for a different—if not special—approach by the national center. This discussion has been carried out through all kinds of publications and the press, but its core has always been the Greek Parliament. There, through the speeches of MPs and ministers—especially those who, after 1912, represented Macedonian electoral districts—the evolving significance of Macedonia as a symbol is revealed, along with the strategies used to manage its image and problems as a Greek province, depending on the political needs and discourse of each era.
