The Exhibition of the Museum Foundation of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA)
“Giannis and Milto Manakia: The Faces Behind the Lens”
travels to Florina and is hosted by the Educational Association of Florina “ARISTOTELIS.”

The exhibition of the Museum Foundation of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) “Giannis and Milto Manakia: The Faces Behind the Lens” continues its successful tour across Greece. Its next stop is Florina. The exhibition will be hosted at the Exhibition Hall of the Gallery of Florina Artists “Aristotelis” from November 6 to November 16, 2025.

The exhibition was initially organized with great success at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle in Thessaloniki as part of the 8th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art in 2023, and during the period 2023–2025 it has traveled both throughout Greece (Grevena, Patras, Larissa, Kastoria) and abroad (Pristina).

The Manakia Brothers, pioneering filmmakers and photographers from Avdella, Grevena, traveled through the countryside and major urban centers of the Balkans, capturing not only the lives of working people, moments of leisure and entertainment, but also architectural landmarks, historical and social events that mark the transformations of the first half of the 20th century.
The exhibition presents a large collection of photographs from the personal archive of Leonidas Manakis, son of Milto Manakia, donated to IMMA by Ambassador (ret.) Mr. Alexandros Mallias. Visitors will also have the opportunity to watch the documentary of the same title, produced by filmmaker Akis Loukas.

The exhibition in Florina is co-organized by the Museum Foundation of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia, the Educational Association of Florina “ARISTOTELIS”, and the Association of Monastiriotes and Surrounding Areas in Florina “Elpis”, with the support of the Municipality of Florina.
The curator of the exhibition is Professor Stavroula Mavrogeni of the University of Macedonia, Director of the Center for Macedonian History Research and Documentation (IMMA), while the general coordination is by Athina Pavlidou, Museologist, Cultural Manager, and Director of IMMA.
