Book Presentation: Macedonia in the Greek Parliament, 1897–1989

The Hellenic Parliament Foundation for Parliamentarism and Democracy and the Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) present the edition Macedonia in the Greek Parliament, 1897–1989 within the framework of the 53rd Book Festival at Pedion tou Areos, at the Main Stage, on September 9, 2024, at 19:30.

The course of the Macedonian Question, as a privileged and “sensitive” topic of Greek political debate, contains many chapters and subchapters. These do not concern only the public history of the diplomatic issue, but also the broader perception of Macedonia as a region with distinct characteristics and problems, which demand a different—if not special—treatment from the national center.

In this volume, through the statements of Members of Parliament and ministers in the Greek Parliament, the shifting significance of Macedonia as a symbol is highlighted, as well as the ways in which its image and its problems as a Greek province were managed, depending on the political needs and rhetoric of each era.
