2nd “MUSEUMS in ACTION – Culture 4 Family”
Events Sunday, May 17, 2026
On Sunday, May 17, Thessaloniki welcomes for the second consecutive year the open cultural celebration “MUSEUMS in ACTION – Culture 4 Family”, participating in the celebration of International Museum Day 2026. In the spirit of this year’s global message, “Museums Unite the World”, five iconic institutions of the city — the Olympic Museum, the Maritime Museum, the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, the Aristotle Museum of Natural History, and the Centre for the Dissemination of Science & Technology Museum NOESIS — are joining forces for the second year in a row!
In particular, the Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki, co-organized with the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry, coordinates the joint celebration, once again with the support of the Thessaloniki Tourism Organization.
This initiative highlights Thessaloniki’s museum potential, showcasing the richness that makes the city a landmark on the cultural and tourism map. Through this multi-themed celebration, museums become bridges of communication, inviting families and young people of all ages to experience discovery, exploration, movement, and creativity, emphasizing the connections that culture builds between people and societies.
The event will take place in the outdoor area of the Maritime Museum, Pier A, Port of Thessaloniki, on Sunday, May 17, from 18:00 to 21:00. Admission is free.

OLYMPIC MUSEUM OF THESSALONIKI
“The Hunt for the Lost Treasure with the Olympic Rings”
The Olympic Museum of Thessaloniki, co-organized with the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry, celebrates International Museum Day and brings the spirit of Olympism to the city, inviting families and young people to enjoy a rich program of outdoor activities.
Through an exciting route featuring five challenge stations, young visitors are introduced to the values of Olympism, explore the sports of archery, golf, and athletics, participate in a creative art workshop to build their own Olympic torch, and compete in memory games and riddles while connecting the five continents of the world.
The festive atmosphere is completed with face painting, while all children are proclaimed “young Olympians” and receive medals upon completing their mission, sealing their very own Olympic experience in the most memorable way!
MARITIME MUSEUM
“Little Maritime Athletes in Action”
The Maritime Museum invites visitors to a dynamic introduction to the world of sea sports through a program that highlights maritime skills and the spirit of cooperation.
Parents and children are introduced to the art of navigation by learning how to tie nautical knots and write messages using Morse code. The experience concludes with an exciting treasure hunt game, connecting learning with creative action.
FOUNDATION OF THE MUSEUM OF THE MACEDONIAN STRUGGLE AND MODERN HISTORY OF MACEDONIA
Intercultural Art Activity: “Children and Museums Unite the World!”
The Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle (IMMA) welcomes families, children, and young people to the Museum celebration with a large “mosaic journey” of images, photographs, paintings, and sketches.
Visitors of all ages will contribute their own faces, drawings, and messages from around the world to create BRIDGES that connect peoples and cultures.
ARISTOTLE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY OF THESSALONIKI
The Aristotle Museum of Natural History of Thessaloniki (A.M.F.I.TH.) is a new institution in the city of Thessaloniki, in Macedonia, and in Northern Greece, which has already made its mark through temporary exhibitions.
At the May 17 event celebrating International Museum Day, the museum will present the collection “Minerals and Humanity”, featuring professors and students from the Department of Geology of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, as well as the “Zoomorphic Forms” art panels.
CENTRE FOR THE DISSEMINATION OF SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY MUSEUM NOESIS
NOESIS “Drops Anchor” with Riddles, Mysteries, and Colors!
On the occasion of International Museum Day, NOESIS brings an outdoor science and play workshop to the city’s port, inviting the public to a shared museum celebration full of challenges for explorers of all ages.
Through the “Science Challenges”, participants test their minds and senses, solve unusual puzzles, take on the legendary Tower of Hanoi, and discover hidden objects using only their sense of touch.
At the same time, in the “Construction Workshop”, participants create their own “Newton’s Disc” and witness the magic of colors transforming into white light through a colorful spinning top, which they can take home with them.
In this way, visitors discover that science is everywhere — in games, in hands-on activities, and in a walk by the sea — in an event designed for children and for everyone who remains young at heart.
