“WOMEN, the Power of Creation”

The Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) invites you to the Parallel Program of Activities organized in the context of the art exhibition featuring five contemporary female artists, titled “WOMEN, the Power of Creation.”

The exhibition is hosted at the Alexandros Haitoglou Hall of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and will run until July 31, 2025.

• Saturday, May 3, 2025 | 12:00–14:00
  Lecture by Maria Kombatsiari: “On Art”
  

  Acclaimed contemporary artist Maria Kombatsiari, known for her original artistic constructions, returns to the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle. In her lecture, she will explore the role of art in the modern world, highlighting its power to unite, inspire, and awaken consciousness. She will share her personal journey and experiences, emphasizing the therapeutic effects of art.

• Wednesday, May 14, 2025 | 18:00–20:00
  Jewelry Workshop with designer Eirini Arabatzidou, creator of “Laskarina”
  

  In this unique workshop, participants will craft their own jewelry inspired by the museum’s exhibits, collections, traditional costumes, and folk art. Using materials from the past (such as fabric scraps, wool yarns, threads, beads, pins, and old jewelry) and drawing on collective memory, participants will create unique pieces inside the museum’s inspiring environment.

  Lecture by Eleni Theofylaktou: “A Dialogue of Painting and Collage”
  Visual artist Eleni Theofylaktou, known for her surreal collages that blend dreamlike and realistic elements, will discuss her body of work, with a focus on the series of collages displayed in the exhibition.
  After the lecture, a hands-on creative workshop will follow, where participants will make their own collages using simple materials.
  (Participants are kindly asked to bring small images cut from magazines in an envelope.)

Admission to all activities is free, but seat reservation is required through the registration form.

About the Exhibition

The

“WOMEN, the Power of Creation” exhibition, curated by Professor Stavroula Mavrogeni (University of Macedonia), explores the woman both as a symbol and as an image.

The five participating artists present deeply personal, memory-filled works. Their creations highlight the dynamic path of women toward emancipation, expressed both through traditional methods like weaving and through pioneering forms like constructions and collage.

The exhibition is further enriched with objects from the Collection of the Folklife and Ethnological Museum of Macedonia–Thrace.
