Mrs. Stavroula Mavrogeni, Professor of the University of Macedonia, Director of the Centre for Research in Macedonian History and Documentation (KEMIT) of IMMA and Dr. Konstantinos S. Papanikolaou, Historian and Scientific Associate of IMMA will speak about the Calendar. The presentation will be moderated by Mr. Dimitris Lyvanios, Assistant Professor of Modern History at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

The IMMA Calendar for the year 2024 is dedicated to the Cities of the Macedonian Struggle. It is a table calendar – album in two languages (Greek-English), with rare photographic and archival material, enriched with historical texts presenting cities that played a decisive role in the Macedonian Struggle. Naoussa, Monastiri, Florina, Serres, Kozani, Meleniko, Edessa, Kastoria, Kavala, Siatista, Drama, Veroia, cities that have undergone many transformations over the centuries and witnessed important historical events, are presented in the pages of the Calendar.

The drama of the great moments of the Greek-Bulgarian conflict over the fate of the three vilayets in the countryside overshadowed the economic, educational and social processes in important urban centers of Macedonian Hellenism. However, it is in these processes, as well as in the determination of an ambitious, rising bourgeoisie, aided by teachers and clergymen, that we must seek, among other things, the reasons for the success of the national project in Macedonia in the period 1904-1908.

The financing and organization of the struggle relied to a considerable extent on the commitment of the local organizations. At the same time, from the cosmopolitan Monastiri in the North, to the Macedonian “capital” of the tobacco industry, Kavala, in the South, the Greek school and the patriarchal clergy, gave their own struggle from their seats and pulpits, contributing greatly to the maintenance of the Greek advantage on the battlefield. The IMMA Calendar for 2024 pays minimum tribute to the contribution and role of these local communities.

The publication of the Calendar was once again implemented with the kind sponsorship of the Food Industry “Haitoglou Bros. The Calendar is available from the shop and the e-shop of the Museum of Macedonian Struggle, as well as from the major bookstores of Athens and Thessaloniki.
