Museum of the Macedonian Struggle
In the context of the celebrations for the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the Greek Revolution, the Foundation of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) presented on Sunday 20 February 2022 the book by Konstantinos P. Gioulekas: “The Chronicle of the Revolution through the Newspapers of the Revolution. 1821. From the uprising to the creation of the Greek State”.
The event was introduced by the Director of the IMMA, Art Historian, Mrs. Fani Tsatsaia, who presented the Museum’s work, the collector’s edition that includes three dedicated volumes, as well as the speakers. More aspects of the project were developed by the Professor of the AUTH and President of the IMMA, Mr. Vasilis K. Gounaris, who underlined the difference between the collector’s edition and the studies of professional historians, where the documents are usually mentioned in the endnotes, while in the publications of Mr. Gioulekas are prominent. Then, the Rector of AUTH, Professor Nikolaos Papaioannou, focused on the successful effort of teaching the history of the 1821 Revolution, through the most important articles of Greek newspapers, in an attractive way for the reader. Finally, the former President of IMMA, Mr. Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos, proceeded to give a detailed description of the structure of the third project and its overall evaluation. The event was closed by the Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Konstantinos P. Gioulekas, who highlighted the rarity of the documents and archival material presented in the third project and attempted a historical review of the newspaper articles of the period.
The event was attended by a representative of the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, the Ministry of Interior (Macedonia – Thrace), the Regional Governor of Central Macedonia, the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Presidents of associations and other institutions of the city, Coordinators of the Educational Project of the PEKES of Central Macedonia, as well as Directors of Primary and Secondary Education of Thessaloniki and Heads of Educational and Cultural Issues. The event was also attended by the President and members of the Association of Friends of the IMMA, members of the IMMA Board of Directors, Professors of the University Institutions of the city, journalists and friends of the Museum.
