IMMA is traveling to the Folklore and Historical Museum of Larissa!

The Foundation Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) supports outreach and constructive synergies between museums.

In this context, starting in 2024, IMMA launched the touring photographic exhibition “Giannis and Milto Manakia: The Faces Behind the Lens,” in collaboration with cultural venues across Greece.

After its stops in Pristina, Grevena, and Patras, the exhibition is now hosted at the Folklore and Historical Museum of Larissa – Giorgos and Lena Gourgioti (FIML), where the opening ceremony took place on Tuesday, February 25, at 7:00 PM, marking the beginning of the cooperation between the two museums within their shared goals of outreach and networking.

The exhibition at FIML has been enriched with documents and materials from the Museum’s own collections, which complement the photographs of the Manakia Brothers.

The curation of the exhibition was carried out by Professor Stavroula Mavrogeni from the University of Macedonia and Director of KEMIT at IMMA, while the overall coordination was handled by Athina Pavlidou, Philologist-Museologist and Director of IMMA, and Fani Kalokairinou, Archaeologist-Folklorist and Scientific Director of FIML.

During the successful opening event, welcoming addresses were delivered by Maria Galliou, Deputy Regional Governor of Larissa, Athanasios Mamako, Mayor of Larissa and President of FIML, Athina Pavlidou, Director of IMMA, and the President of the Avdella Association “Vasilitsa,” which participated in the event.

Short speeches were also given by Fani Kalokairinou, Scientific Director of FIML, and Stavroula Mavrogeni, curator of the exhibition, who then conducted an interactive guided tour for the audience.

In the theatrical performance that brought to life the protagonists of the exhibition, the Manakia Brothers, Nikos Kolokythopoulos and Dimitris Zois took part.

IMMA warmly thanks the Board of Directors of FIML, especially its Scientific Director Fani Kalokairinou, for the excellent collaboration and hospitality, as well as the Museum staff for their valuable contribution to the event.
