INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY at IMMA ‘Iconic Female Figures of Macedonia
Events 7 March 2025
Μουσείο Μακεδονικού Αγώνα
As part of the celebration of International Women’s Day, the Foundation Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA) is organizing and inviting you to attend an interactive event highlighting four emblematic women who were active in Macedonia, on Friday, March 7, at 6:30 PM at the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle.
Peristera Kraka, fighter for the Macedonian cause, Anna Triantafyllidou, teacher, Anna Mela-Papadopoulou, Red Cross nurse, and Thaleia Flora-Karavia, painter, will be “brought to life” to narrate moments from their turbulent lives.
The spaces of the Museum will be transformed into a theatrical setting, transporting visitors to the early 20th century.
Professor Stavroula Mavrogeni, from the Department of Balkan, Slavic, and Oriental Studies at the University of Macedonia, and Director of the Center for Research on Macedonian History and Documentation (KEMIT) at IMMA, following archival research, has traced the journeys of these four women and authored texts that capture their vision and struggles for a world of empathy and service.
Each of these women, overcoming the social constraints of their time, contributed to the liberation of Macedonia, to education, healthcare, and culture.
Their lives are illuminated through a theatrical performance, where speech, drama, and historical narration come together in dialogue with the audience.
Participating in the theatrical performance are University of Macedonia students Katerina-Marina Bethava and Anastasia Zaproudi, from the Department of Balkan, Slavic, and Oriental Studies.
