Donation of a Wheelchair to IMMA as Part of the Rotary Clubs’ “Give the Gift of Access 2.0” Programme

In March 2026, a wheelchair was presented to the Foundation of the Museum for the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia by former Rotary District Governor Vissarion N. Zachos, as part of the “Give the Gift of Access 2.0” programme. The initiative is implemented by the Rotary E-Club of Greece in cooperation with the Rotary Clubs of Agia Paraskevi, Anoixi Semeli, Kifissia Kastri, Patras “Kostis Palamas”, Preveza, Chalandri, and Psychiko.

The wheelchair was received by the President of IMMA, Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos, together with IMMA Director Athina Pavlidou and members of the Museum’s staff. Mr Zachos was subsequently given a guided tour of the Foundation’s permanent exhibition spaces by Dr Konstantinos Papanikolaou, historian and researcher at IMMA.

The “Give the Gift of Access 2.0” programme aims to improve accessibility at museums and archaeological sites through the donation of wheelchairs, enabling visitors with mobility difficulties to explore these spaces safely and comfortably. The wheelchairs are new, heavy-duty models that meet safety specifications and can be used without assistance. The programme continues the “Give the Gift of Access 1.0” initiative, through which 20 wheelchairs were donated to 13 archaeological sites and museums.

Equal access to and inclusion in culture are key priorities in IMMA’s strategic planning.
