Central Event of Remembrance<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

120 years since the death of Pavlos Melas<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia (IMMA), in the framework of the programme of its anniversary events for the 120th anniversary of the death of Pavlos Melas, is holding the Central Event of Remembrance, in co-organization with the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCI), on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 18:00 at the TCI’s Event Hall<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The anniversary of the 120th anniversary of the death of the most emblematic fighter of Macedonia offers a multitude of readings, both those that attempt to integrate and interpret the action of the person within his era, and those that attempt to follow his diverse paths in historical memory, public discourse, art and literature.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Central Commemoration Event, which constitutes the beginning and the core of IMMA’s programme of events and activities, aims to honour the memory of Pavlos Melas and at the same time to present to the general public the historical, social and political context in which Pavlos Melas was established as a national hero in Public History.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The event will include speeches by Mr. Konstantinos P. Gioulekas<\/strong>, Deputy Minister of the Interior, Sector for Macedonia and Thrace and Mr. Vasilis K. Gounaris<\/strong>, Professor of Modern History at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Welcoming remarks will be made by Mr. Emmanuel Vlachogiannis<\/strong>, First Vice President of the Thessaloniki Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Mr. Nikolaos K. Margaropoulos<\/strong>, President of the Foundation for the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the Modern History of Macedonia. The event will be coordinated by Mrs. Athina Pavlidou, Director of IMMA.<\/span><\/p>\n

A reception will follow after the event.<\/span><\/p>\n
