In 1999 the association “Friends of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle” established the Foundation for  the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle and the concession to it of the biggest part of the relics in its disposal. The Association’s members thought that in this initiative the state would be a supporter. The Association continues to support IMMA. Since then the Museum has a dual mission: To preserve and disseminate the memory of the Greek struggles for the liberation of Macedonia and especially the Macedonian Struggle, as well as the scientific study  of the modern and contemporary history of Macedonia.
