Research Centre for Macedonian History and Documentation (KEMIT)

In 1986, the Board of the Association “The Friends of the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle” took the decision to establish a Research Centre in order to promote research into the history of Macedonia and the Macedonian Struggle. This initiative answered the need to promote the study of history by using primary sources and material.

The Research Centre for Macedonian History and Documentation (KEMIT) features a specialised library and electronic databases, collects and processes archival material, publishes monographs and studies, organises seminars and conferences, provides information and documentation to interested parties and generally promotes the academic objectives of the Foundation through all possible means.

KEMIT also has at its disposal photocopied documents from the historical archives of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of many countries and archival material from many Greek private and public collections. The above-mentioned material can be used by researchers only with the authorization of KEMIT’s director.

KEMIT is overseen by an Academic Committee, which consists of the following members: Ioannis Hasiotis, Professor Emeritus (AUTH), Basil Gounaris, Professor (ΑUTH), Ioannis Stefanides, Professor (AUTH), Vlasis Vlasidis, Associate Professor (UOM), Eleftheria Manta, Assistant Professor (ΑUTH) and Dr. Evans Chekimoglou. The Director of KEMIT is Stavroula Mavrogeni, Associate Professor (UOM)

KEMIT does not have a lending library.
